It all started out when the gods were so mad with all these ferocious animals. The next day, one god invited all the other gods to a big meeting. At the meeting the gods could not figure out the meaning of a calm animal. So they thought for days and nights.

After thinking for a million hours, an old god stood up and said '' I have figured out a way to make a calmer animal.'' Every god said '' (Yeah right, bet you can't do any such thing!)'' So the old god did not tell the gods how to make a calmer animal. He didn't tell them because he knew he could do it and he wanted it to be a surprise.

The old god watched over a small piece of land. He saw a pack of wolves barking at a little, young, lonely wolf. This has been going on since the young wolf was born. The wolf ran away from the other wolves and hid in a small cave. The other wolves kept running after him. The old god struck a line of fire right in front of the mean wolves so they couldn't come after the little one. The old god found the little wolf and studied the poor little thing for a moment. The old god said to himself ''this wolf looks so much calmer than the other ones. ''Perhaps it is because all those other wolves have been mistreating him since he was born.'' The old god looked at the wolf, and the wolf looked back.

The god took the poor little wolf back to his big cozy cloud. The god studied the small wolf a little more, and then found out that this little wolf was not a wolf. The old god took the new animal to the other gods, and they were astonished. All the young gods asked the old god what he was going to name it since he found it. The old god thought for a moment, and he said ''I want to name it,'' he thought for another second, ''Dog.''

From that day on, all the dogs will never forget the old legend about how dogs came to be. But most of all, they never, ever, forgot about the old god, who is still up on his big fluffy cloud, with his dog, watching over them. This story tells something about your courage, which is, if you want to do some thing, you can do it!
